Filled in planner

If it isn’t in my planner, it doesn’t exist. Ok, maybe I’m being a little dramatic, but not as dramatic as you think. College is busy and I’m bound to forget to do something every day. Unless it’s all conveniently written down in one place. Enter my handy dandy planner. Each day is full of to dos, school events, homework, and birthdays.

Here’s what’s you’ll need to start your journey to near perfect scheduling freedom:

A Planner

Cover, monthly spread, and weekly spread in a planner

This one’s pretty self evident. If you’re going to write down your week, you are going to need a place to write it down. There are plenty of DIY planner hacks out there. I spent years using pocket sized notebooks instead of shelling out the few bucks it takes to buy a planner. But trust me, that planner is an investment. It will save you the time a DIY planner takes, and it’s more organized!

My current little number is one that I picked up at Walmart for a few bucks.

Some Colorful Pens

Color coding is key when you’re balancing classes! And it makes your planner look pretty. Remember, I like a pretty option. Even if you aren’t a student with homework for five classes, color coding can benefit you.

For me, I picked up a big pack of ridiculous sparkly and neon gel pens from Walmart (again). What can I say? It’s cheap. Then I write out my color coded schedule to refer to while I’m learning which class is which color.

Bonus points if you use that color to accent your class notes!

Lots of Sticky Notes

lots of sticky notes filled with priority and to do lists

I already used a few sticky notes for my class schedule but you better sit down and buckle up because we’re just getting started. I use sticky notes for everything. Every. Single. Day. When I have a lot of homework to do in one day, I make a priority list and write it down on a stick note that can be stuck in my notebook. At the beginning of the week I make a weekly priority list. I live for sticky notes

One Happy Quote

Short motivation quote Text: Life's short, stunt it!

This is just a personal preference thing, but I like to add a little more decoration to my planner. And I like a little pop of motivation every time I check what assignments are due. My go to way to find quotes is to google, “Short motivational quotes,” and scroll until something sticks.

Sometimes it will be a religious quote. Sometimes it’s whatever I find on the internet. Sometime, like this week, it's Hot Rod.

This week’s quote is __

Three Trackable Goals

Goal tracker for three goals: prayer, gratitude, and blogging

Ever heard of SMART goals? I’m a fan. Also bullet journal habit trackers? Those are good too.

I mashed these up into one beautiful section of my journal. Each week I pick three goals or three things I want to do everyday. Then it’s as easy as writing them down and giving myself a place to check them off.

A few of my favorites and go-to's have been getting up with my alarm, practicing Spanish on Duolingo, and writing in my journal.

A Few Minutes

Now you have your supplies. You have your quote. You have three goals to track. And most importantly, you have a vision. A vision of yourself living an organized life.

Take a few minutes and write down everything you need to do. It doesn’t have to be pretty. It just has to be effective. Go through your syllabi, look at the campus events calendar, and check Facebook to see if there are any birthdays you need to remember.

Now keep that planner with you to refer to when life gets crazy!
